Navigating the challenges of raising a child with autism can feel overwhelming, especially when immediate help seems out of reach.

With long wait times for individual sessions—often stretching from six months to a year—many families are left struggling without support.

That’s why Function First ABA has created a dedicated Parent Support Group to bridge the gap and provide essential resources and guidance during these difficult times.

What is our Parent Support Group?

Our Parent Support Group is a welcoming and safe space for parents and caregivers of children on the autism spectrum.

This group provides a supportive community where you can connect with others who share similar experiences, gain insights, and learn practical strategies for managing everyday challenges.

Led by experienced professionals, the group offers a collaborative environment where you can find understanding, share your journey, and receive guidance on a wide range of topics.

The Parent Support Group addresses the unique needs of families with children on the spectrum by covering various topics, including:

  • Understanding Autism: Gain a deeper understanding of autism, including the characteristics and behaviors often seen in children on the spectrum. Our group discussions will help you better interpret your child’s actions, needs, and ways of communicating.

  • Behavior Management: Learn effective strategies for managing challenging behaviors, such as meltdowns, self-stimulatory actions, and difficulties with transitions. Our goal is to provide you with practical tools that can make a real difference at home, school, and in social settings.

  • Functional Communication: Explore techniques to help your child communicate more effectively, whether through verbal language, picture exchange systems, or other assistive methods. Improved communication can reduce frustration and foster a more positive family dynamic.

  • Parenting Strategies: Share and discover strategies that work, from implementing routines to using positive reinforcement. Discuss how to set realistic expectations and create a supportive environment that helps your child thrive.

  • Self-Care for Parents: Caring for a child with autism can be demanding, making self-care crucial. Learn how to manage stress, set boundaries, and prioritize your well-being to remain a strong support for your family.
