RBT Support & BII

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Support and Behavior Intervention Implementation (BII)

At Function First ABA, we recognize the growing need for specialized support in schools due to the shortage of instructional assistants and special education aides. Our Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) provide expert services that enhance the educational experience for students requiring extra help.

RBT support and BII provide specialized 1:1 support for students in school settings who are assigned such services through their IEP. At Function First ABA, we offer subcontracted RBTs, all trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), to serve as BIIs.

Many schools face challenges in sourcing adequately trained BIIs, but our RBTs bring a higher level of expertise in behavior management, utilizing evidence-based ABA techniques to deliver effective, individualized support for students.

How RBTs Differ from Traditional Assistants

While instructional assistants and special education aides play critical roles, RBTs offer a higher level of training and expertise.

Certified in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), RBTs undergo rigorous training, competency evaluations, and ongoing supervision by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This enables them to implement evidence-based interventions directly, which goes beyond basic classroom management.

Unlike traditional aides, RBTs use data-driven strategies to assess and modify behaviors in real time, helping children develop positive, functional behaviors that support learning.

Their work is focused not just on managing the classroom but also on improving students' academic, social, and emotional well-being.

What is Behavior Intervention Implementation (BII)?

Behavior Intervention Implementation (BII) involves using targeted behavioral techniques to address challenging behaviors that disrupt a child’s learning.

Through BII, RBTs implement customized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) tailored to each student’s needs.

The goal is to replace problematic behaviors with positive alternatives, which is particularly important for students with conditions like autism, ADHD, or emotional disturbances.

Techniques such as positive reinforcement, visual supports, token systems, and prompting are used to guide students toward better behavior and overall classroom success.

Benefits of RBTs and BII in the Classroom

RBTs offer numerous advantages in educational settings, including:

  • Improved Focus and Engagement: RBTs work closely with students to increase attention and participation, adjusting strategies based on individual progress.

  • Behavioral Consistency: RBTs ensure that intervention plans are applied consistently across school and home environments, which is essential for long-term behavior changes.

  • Enhanced Academic and Social Skills: By reducing disruptive behaviors, RBTs enable students to concentrate on academics and build essential social skills like communication and self-regulation.

  • Personalized Support: RBTs provide individualized attention to students, ensuring that each child receives the help they need to succeed.

Why Schools Need RBTs

With the shortage of instructional aides, many schools struggle to provide adequate behavioral support.

RBTs fill this gap, offering specialized care that addresses both classroom management and the unique behavioral needs of students.

Their training in ABA allows them to implement effective, evidence-based interventions, making them an invaluable asset in educational settings.

RBTs also collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families, creating a unified approach to behavior management that improves outcomes for students across different environments.
