Services & Specialties

Function First ABA offers a variety of services to help you and your child(ren) in your journey through life together.

Patricia Mora is Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with over 15 years of experience working in mental health.

As a BCBA, she will assess and determine the appropriate level of care based on the patient’s symptoms, verbal repertoire, age, and scores based on standardized testing. As a clinician, she aims at prescribing the best level of service model (comprehensive, focused, parent training, etc.) for your family.

ABA Techniques:

Function First ABA utilizes techniques such as behavior assessment & analysis, positive reinforcement, schedules of reinforcement, and more to change your child’s behavior.

Our process helps your child:

  • Boost their language and communication skills.

  • Improve executive functioning skills to assist with attention, focus, memory, and academics.

  • Expand social skills like listening skills, conversational skills, social cues, interpersonal skills, etc.

  • Decrease problematic and/or disruptive behaviors.

The first step in our process is to conduct a comprehensive Functional Behavior Assessment. This assessment will help guide us in identifying problematic behaviors by understanding the function of the problematic behavior. This includes identifying setting events, the function of behaviors, and teaching replacement skills.

The second step is to create a behavior intervention plan with proactive and reactive strategies to improve the behavior.

Over time, the plan may change, as we will adapt treatment based on data gained through monitoring the behavior(s).

Would learning new tools and skills help you along your way?

Functional Behavior Assessments

A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is the process of identifying problem behaviors and developing plans to improve or eliminate them.

For a FBA, we will observe the patient in various settings and conduct indirect interviews with parents, teachers, and support staff. The process insures gathering the necessary information to identify the environmental factors that may be contributing to disruptive or maladaptive behavior.

After the FBA is completed, proper care can be determined based on the observations throughout the process.

Behavior Management

Behavior Management is a less-vigorous form of behavior therapy, which focuses on continuing a patient’s positive habits and behaviors and decreasing their negative ones. It is different from behavior modification, where the focus is on fully changing behaviors.

In Behavior Management, we will assess patient behaviors based on function and provide a treatment plan listing proactive and reactive strategies. Your family can then implement these strategies along with our feedback and guidance.
